Writing, The Art of Reason

I see writing as one of the more intriguing and complex forms of communication. In writing, an author can shape and express a narrative, that can be specifically refined, to communicate exactly what he or she intended. When I read something, I get the idea that I am interpreting exactly what I was intended to interpret. There is a filter, a filter that can sometimes reveal more about the author than the writing itself. When you read this, you must keep in mind that in writing this, I am sifting through my thoughts and experiences, in order to communicate coherent and logically consistent ideas. It’s my filter. I’m writing how I think.

In some ways writing is the most unforgiving form of communication. When an author publishes something, he is accountable for every word of it. If someone is offended by his work, he can’t go back and say that he made a Freudian slip. He meant what he wrote, whether kind or harsh. I would tend to say, that if you want to truly understand how someone reasons, you must read what they have to say. I’m not talking about a 10 word text message, or a 3 sentence email. I’m talking about reading a meaningful letter, article or book. I believe that someone’s literary eloquence, or lack there of, can give you a glimpse of their character. It can tell you something about them.

I believe that in our society, we must take another look at what writing is, and what it can be. Writing is more than just a utility, or a means of communication. A blank sheet of paper is a canvas for reason. An essay can be the seed of a cultural revolution. Writing is persuasive art form, and he who masters it may never be forgotten.
